May 29, 10:00 – 1-00 , Grow Your Own Tea Garden: Everything You Need to Know About Designing a Garden, Growing Herbs and Blending Flavorful Teas


Peppermint, chamomile, echinacea and lemon balm aren’t just popular with gardeners; these are also staple plants in a tea garden. In Virginia, it’s also possible to grow camellia sinensis, the evergreen shrub used to make black, green, white and oolong teas. You can use herbs, fruits and flowers from your garden fresh or dried and blend different herbs to make custom flavors.


In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll tour the tea garden at Lavender Fields at Tantivy Farm, learn the difference between teas and tisanes, discuss the ideal garden design for you and get tips for growing and harvesting herbs to maintain peak flavor—and then put that information into action with a mini tea blending experience where you’ll experiment with different combinations of herbs to make your own one-ounce blend of custom tea.


 Each ticket will also include meet and greet tea, coffee, and Tantivy  Lavender donuts with a lunch box to include,

A  trio of cold salads:

Pasta—Jenny’s family recipe

Potato—using lavender pepper from Tantivy (not mayo based)

Chicken—locally sourced and organic chicken

Assorted bagged chips from Route 11 chip company

• Salted caramel chocolate chip cookie

• Utensils, napkins, condiments if applicable
